About MBPAPA

Introduction

Having gleaned input from prospective members, and using our best judgment, this committee has drafted this organizational plan that was ratified by the founding membership at a meeting on Thursday, October 13th, 2005 at the Carmel Art Association

This plan includes the name, purposes, activities, membership criteria, dues structure, fiscal agency, and Board/Committee chair Roles. Founding members who joined during that meeting are included on this committee roster.

This plan is intended to take the organization through its first twelve months of existence. During this first year, we intend that the organization adopt by-laws and elect officers for the initiation of an independent nonprofit corporation.

Name

The name of this organization will be Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters Association (MBPAPA)

Fiscal Agency

Big Sur Arts Initiative (BSAI) has offered to act as a nonprofit fiscal agent for the MBPAPA. All funds collected by MBPAPA will be held in a separate bank account by BSAI to be disbursed by the treasurer and executive committee for the benefit of the membership of the organization. BSAI will act as fiscal agent for a period of up to one year, by which time MBPAPA will make other arrangements, or renew this agreement with BSAI. BSAI will charge MBPAPA for any actual expenses incurred in the administration and creation of this account.

Purposes

MBPAPA will foster the understanding and appreciation of Plein Air painting and its place in the history and current culture of our communities. It will work to distinguish its members as dedicated artists of the region.

The primary purpose of this organization is the promotion and exhibition of Plein Air painting among art collectors and the general public. Through this we will generate sales and support the professional development of MBPAPA members.

Also, we will

• enhance and support the creative development and artistic and professional skills of the membership.

• provide education and inspiration to the general public and youth of our communities.

• continue and enhance the recognition of the region’s rich and varied history as a center for creative expression.

• facilitate communication, camaraderie, and mutual support among our members.
